Many women die every year
of complications during pregnancy or childbirth. Majority
of these deaths can be avoided if the existing medical interventions
are made known and little awareness is created. The key obstacle
is pregnant women’s lack of access to quality care before,
during and after childbirth. Care and Share recognizes tht
matrnal health is of utmost important to rural communities.
The consequences of poor maternal health are grave. When a
mother dies, her children are less likely to go to school,
get immunized against disease and eat well, and are up to
10 times more likely to die before their second birthday.
Care and Share has initiated this JEEVAN
SAVE A MOTHER PROGRAMME in 56 rural villages of Tiruchirappalli
district of Tamil Nadu State, India with the objective of
reducing and prventing the maternal death during the childbirth
and after. Through this program special care is provided to
pregnant women by house visits, pre and post-natal clinics,
immunization, health awareness education, health care program
for newly married women and women at marriabgable age. Awareness
on health, hygiene, sanitation, healthy eating habits and
safe delivery practices are also given. This program benefits
more than 1500 mothers. |
