better, systematic and scientific approach to social service
and developmental projects of the Franciscan Missionary
Brothers.
Franciscan Missionary Brothers is a society of religious
Brothers founded in India in the year 1901 by Bro.Paulus
Moritz, a German Missionary. A Jew by birth, he had a deep
love for the poor especially children and this was translated
into action by founding a Congregation which serves children
in India through more than 65 schools and 60 orphanages/
boys’ homes caring more than 2000 children. Our main
objectives are to serve the poor, the deprived and marginalised
people irrespective of their social, economic and religious
affiliation. The Brothers also have their presence in Sri
Lanka, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, U.S.A., Canada, Paraguay,
Bolivia and Ghana.
Recognizing that women and children suffer disproportionately
from hunger and poverty, Care and Share focuses on working
with the poor women and children because; women have always
been marginalized and oppressed in the Indian society. We
believe women are the foundation of the family and the community
and if she is empowered, eventually, the entire family and
community are empowered. Women should be organized and strengthened
at the grass root level to end their hunger, poverty, and
subjugation. Care and Share is making an attempt to make
women empowered to create permanent social change.
There are too many children in our area suffer from deprivation,
disease, hunger, illiteracy and poverty and consequently
live without chances, choices and opportunities. Poverty
does not only threaten children by depriving them of the
capabilities needed to survive, develop and thrive. It also
widens social, economic and gender disparities that prevent
children from enjoying their childhood and undermine protective
family and community environments, leaving children vulnerable
to exploitation, abuse, violence and discrimination. Care
and Share works with such children in the areas of education,
healthcare and children’s rights. Our intervention
is designed to snap the self-reinforcing cycle of hunger,
poverty and disease – one life, one child, and one
family at a time.
