It is to improve access to safe pregnancy and delivery services for the rural women in 56 villages of Tiruchirappalli district. Each year, many women in our villages die from pregnancy related causes. Care and Share recognizes that maternal health is of utmost importance to communities. The consequences of poor maternal health are grave. When a mother dies, her children are less likely to go to school, get immunized against disease and eat well, and are up to 10 times more likely to die before their second birthday. Through this program special care is provided to pregnant women by providing pre and post-natal clinics, immunization, health awareness education, personal hygiene and sanitation and healthy eating habits. This program benefits more than 1,500 pregnant women.
